We’re back – the shiny new website

20 November 2008 No Comment

It’s taken a little time but at last, we’re back online with a shiny new website that we are sure you will find useful, informative and entertaining.

Screen grab of GVMC Website

The site is split two ways, stuff you want to know and stuff that’s happening. The stuff you want to know won’t change much over time and you’ll find it in the same place, the dark grey menu along the top. Because lots of stuff happens we thought it would be good to share that here, so when new stuff happens you’ll find it in the bottom left panel on the front page. If it’s quite important we can make it stick around a bit longer in the top right “featured” panel or if it’s really important and we really want you to see it we’ll put it in the top left “headline” panel.

Navigating the site is very easy, you see it, you click it, you get it! Clever huh? Along the middle of the front page is a “category bar” that takes you to broadly grouped “stuff that happens” type posts / articles in an archive of sorts. On every page of the site you’ll find a rather messy looking box of words in the right hand column known as a “tag cloud”. The tag cloud is a great way to find the things you want quickly because they loosely link things together, want to know about Rali Cwm Gwendraeth 2009? It’ll have some very intuitive tags like “RCG09”, or “Rali Cwm Gwendraeth” that relate to it, even things like “Rally”, “Pembrey” and so on. You can even link to tags rather than an individual post / article, why? Because the post / article may be out of date and replaced by some new stuff that happens.

It’s a two way street now, the site has quite powerful features that let you have your say too. Many posts / articles will give you the opportunity to comment at the bottom. Your comments will be moderated and you own your words so keep it clean and inoffencive. We also have a great contact form system that will make it very easy for us to answer your questions. There is a general form on the “contact” page that can be found by clicking the link on the top bar. We will also have special contact forms attached to pages and posts / articles that will send the message straight to the person that can help you regarding that section or article.

So now that we have this clever website and very easy ways for you to contact us here at Gwendraeth Valley Motor Club we’d really like our members and everyone else to use it. We’d like to hear from you, especially our members about the stuff that’s happening with you, send us a message so that we can share it with all our readers. If you have some criticism or suggestions about the site then we’d love to hear them too.

Personal Message from Justin – GVMC Webmonkey

I’ve enjoyed setting up this new site and will continue to improve it over the coming weeks and months to make even better so that Gwendraeth Valley Motor Club’s members get real value and use from the website.
